Suggested Reading Lists
As I am sure you are aware, as well as being an enjoyable pastime, reading impacts hugely on children’s writing ability and their general learning. We encourage children to read as much as possible, both at home and in school.
Recent research from the National Literacy Trust revealed that children who read every day outside the classroom are five times more likely to read above the expected level for their age than those who never read outside the class.
To assist with the difficult task of choosing a new book, we have put together a suggested reading list for each year group across the school.
You will notice this is not an exhaustive list but it represents a cross-section of books for your child’s year group.
We wish to help enthuse your child in reading and in the words of the author Dr Seuss, ”The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”
We encourage you look on your child’s year group to see the selection of books on offer to read and perhaps visit the local library or invest in a book for your child .
Remember age is not a barrier to reading, so please feel free to dip into the selections of books in other year groups.
