Intent
At Intake Primary, our approach to reading is grounded in an absolute belief that every child can and will achieve. ‘Every child a reader’ is our passionate conviction. We strive to teach pupils to read effectively and quickly using Read Write Inc. Phonics (RWI). We firmly believe that teaching children to read and write independently, as quickly as possible, is one of the core purposes of a primary school. Accurate and fluent reading skills not only hold the keys to the rest of the curriculum but also have a fundamental impact on self-esteem and future life chances.
