Implementation

Our teachers are enthusiastic about this subject and promote a positive attitude towards learning about and from the past. Our whole school approach to teaching this subject includes:

• Planning and delivery of engaging lessons using resources to aid understanding of conceptual knowledge.
• Introduction of challenging concepts and new vocabulary.
• Knowledge and skills that are built upon from previous learning.
• Opportunities to encourage and enable children to explore and find out for themselves.
• Children accessing educational visits and/or visitors into school in order to explore and bring to life aspects of and periods in History.

The long term plan is devised to promote continuity and progression and teachers use the Key Skills document to ensure the correct level of expectation and challenge specific to their year group. The theme webs provide medium term planning and the short term planning identifies specific learning objectives.

Our approach at Intake Primary School results in children who are curious and excited to explore, question, compare and evaluate the past and its impact on our world today. Educational trips and visitors enable our children to widen their experiences, knowledge and understanding of History
