Intent

At Intake Primary School we follow the RE syllabus for Sheffield pupils, SACRE, which establishes what will be taught in RE in Sheffield schools., and provides teachers with practical support and guidance about how to teach RE effectively.

Our children live in an ever changing and diverse world made up of multiple religions and varied beliefs. In preparing for adult life we need to make them aware of the religious differences within their community and the wider world and how to respond to these differences with respect and tolerance. At Intake we are advocating that RE should help children and young people to hold balanced and well informed conversations about religion and beliefs by being religiously literate. Pupils will access a high quality RE curriculum that encourages an interest in exploring, improving and understanding, whilst showing respect for different faiths and cultural diversity. This will enable them to develop a knowledge and acceptance of religions and worldviews, with the skill to “disagree agreeably” accepting the similarities and differences we find from faith to faith. We strongly believe in building a tolerant and respectful atmosphere that reflects our diverse community. We provide opportunities for children to expand upon their Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Education (SMSC) and aim to increase their self-awareness, recognise the needs of others and develop their values for life – by encouraging them to ask questions and deepen their own knowledge.
